Autumn in America & Haiku

Autumn in America

Autumn in America is not like Autumn in New Zealand. First it's not called Autumn it's called Fall and the leaves are as red as an apple and the squirrels come out to collect and bury nuts for the winter, and all the leaves change colour.

Fall is beautiful, warm and with a nice breeze, and interesting.

Haiku

A haiku is a Japanese poem, with a pattern of syllables. It doesn't need to rhyme.

the pattern is 5-7-5 syllables.
The first line has 5 syllables

the second line has 7 syllables

the third line has 5 syllables.

Write a haiku!

Beautiful Blossoms
The Petals Bright and Vibrant
Amazingly Cool

And now, write a haiku about Autumn!

Leaves on the Trees Fall

but before you see colours

with beautiful trees

Now write a haiku about anything you want.

Dad and Mum and Me

We all Love music with Dad

because Dad plays it

HALLOWEEN

HALLOWEEN

History of Halloween

Originally the name was Samhain Festival, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. This is where Halloween originated from.

In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1st as a time to honor all saints and martyrs and it was called 'All Saints Day'

The evening before All Saints Day was called All Hallows Eve.

Now instead of All Hallows Eve it's just called Halloween and now instead of trying to ward off ghosts its now just a fun friendly kids event.

Facts about Halloween

USA growers produce 1,500,000,000 pumpkins per year.

The world's biggest pumpkin weighs more than 1700 pounds and that would be like lifting 20 Nikas!

Pumpkin is very good for you

in the 19th Century peoplee thought pumpkins could cure snake bites, freckles, and facial wrinkles.

there are 30 varieties of pumpkins. the one you carve at home is a connecticut field pumpkin.

On Halloween the idea with the pumpkins you have carved is that you put it on your porch on the evening of October 31st and mischief makers have 4 hours to try to smash it.

I am not putting mine out because I want to keep it!

WHY PUMPKINS?

Because back in the 8th Century, when Halloween was called All Hallows Eve, people put bread, pumpkins, and other food on their porch to feed the ghosts to keep them out of their houses.

Over time, it became just pumpkins.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO FOR HALLOWEEN

We bought the perfect pumpkins and we're going to carve them. We bought them from the pumpkin patch ,and we're going to a party, we are going to dress up in costumes and have fun.

We also decorated the house and had a party!
